New online course!
Hello, happy new year!
It's been a busy one for me and I don't want to just throw everything into one post so there are a few posts coming up from me this week. I know, I know, I haven't caught up on the posts about quilts I made literally over a year ago! Maybe I'll revisit those when I feel inclined to do so.
I wanted to firstly introduce you to my first foray into online teaching. I think a lot of us have recently reflected on how certain jobs are not guaranteed if they rely on being with groups of strangers. One thing that stopped early on was classroom teaching. I had a guild all lined up to do a three part Paint By Numbers Quilts class in March, and we had to cancel it a week or two before because we weren't sure what would happen.
So here's my digital class, hosted by Creative Spark, which is C&T's online platform. My class is called Paint By Number Quilts: Dog Portraits. There's a few of the authors of C&T/Stash books trying it out. It's generally video classes but discussions are open for each lesson, and I have a section on mine where you can submit your fabric choices to me to help you with if you're not sure how to proceed. My experience in this is that people tend to worry at this stage and then spend lots and lots of time on fabric choices, so I wanted to offer additional support.
It took me about 2 1/2 months to film a class with two cameras and this fantastic, "soups-in-a-bag-for-balance custom made rig" - almost exactly 2 hours long without pauses. I go through putting a pattern together, fabrics, piecing, quilting and making a mini or pillow as well as all the finicky bits in between like threads, or what to do if you have a bit of gunky glue on your top.
